Challenge

IGT has to deliver compliance training to their workforce in the highly regulated gaming industry. They needed a method to reinforce compliance knowledge and identify gaps among sales reps and managers at their Texas site.

Solution

Wranx offered IGT a means to of delivering training remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. Using spaced repetition the app would increase knowledge retention in a quick and engaging way for their staff.

Results

Results from the post-assessment showed a clear improvement in knowledge among learners; 100% of learners who completed the training module improved on their pre-assessment Certainty Based Marking (CBM) score.

Delivering compliance training in a critical area

Providing effective compliance training to the workforce is critical in highly regulated industries such as gaming, where employees must be fully aware of their responsibilities and understand how best to protect customers from harm.

Because the IGT Texas sales force is on the front line with consumers and retailers, they need to be regularly updated in line with the latest industry guidelines and standards to mitigate compliance and regulatory risks.

IGT was looking for a method to effectively reinforce compliance knowledge and identify knowledge gaps among sales representatives and managers at their Texas site.

Effective knowledge reinforcement during COVID-19

Training needed to be implemented according to schedule in the midst of the initial impact of COVID-19 on standard business practices. IGT needed to ensure that employees were retaining information, even in a virtual environment. They needed a tool that could deliver digital learning in short bursts, whilst increasing knowledge retention. IGT chose Wranx as a key provider of compliance training thanks to its utilization of the spaced repetition learning technique, which identifies individual’s knowledge gaps.

The app is also available on all devices, meaning that employees could access their training on the go at a time convenient to them.

A bespoke service, tailored to IGT

The Wranx content team developed a custom compliance training module using existing material from an IGT partner and approved IGT training documents. This module reinforced learning for IGT Texas sales staff through daily bite-sized questions, including additional resources and links to IGT partner websites.

Certainty Based Marking (CBM) was included, requiring learners to not only answer the question, but also indicate their confidence that their answer was correct. This method identified ‘misinformed’ learners with high confidence in poor knowledge.

Participants accessed the training module after completing a CBM pre-assessment to establish their baseline knowledge. IGT management tracked performance and participation throughout the six-week exercise, providing prompts and reminders as participants progressed.

Clear improvement from pre to post-assessment

The post-assessment measured the retained knowledge after completing the Wranx module. Wranx analytics compared learner performance across both assessments, including the CBM data to plot the participants’ learning journey.

Results showed a clear improvement in knowledge – 100% of learners improved their pre-assessment CBM score. Additionally, 94% of learners improved accuracy from pre to post-assessment.

Over half of the post-assessment questions had more than 90% correct responses. This helped IGT identify topics that learners struggled with and focused future training modules on those topics the following year.

IGT also saw a 100% decrease in ‘misinformed’ learners, as all of them became ‘aligned’ post-assessment with high levels of confidence and accuracy.
